The ACC Digital Network Tournament Fan Experience And Guest Reporter Search Winners

The newest ACC Digital Network (@theACCDN) Guest Reporter Search campaign by the ACCDN has two new collegiate winners that will be part of the extensive tournament coverage. Sports technology apps, streaming and social content are set to enhance the ACC fan experience. Shantel Jordan and Jacob Dennis will boost their sports media careers via video, editorial and social media contributions from the 2015 New York Life ACC Tournament. Jordan and Dennis are official members of the ACCDN team and will work at the Greensboro Coliseum on the ACCDN #ACCStar daily video on demand segment, together with Jeff Fischel and Courtney Cox, as well as hoops analysts Jason Capel and Drew Barry. The two follow in the footsteps of the inaugural contest winner, Taylor Cunningham, featured in our past Sports Techie community blog here. All 13 games will be nationally televised on ESPN and the ACC Network.

Students will provide video, editorial and social media contributions as part of the ACCDN’s expansive coverage.

The innovative tech solutions do not end there because of the ACC Sports Mobile App, ACC Gameday App and ACC Fan App, each providing users compelling ACCDN content as free downloads available at the Apple iTunes App Store via and Google Play for Android.

Use the ACC Sports Mobile App for live game video streams and real-time updated scores, stats, highlights, tournament news and sponsor messaging. ACC Guest Reporters
The ACCDN contest is open to all college sports fans that have a passion for the ACC nation and a journalistic skill set to match. These are non-paid positions but all travel and expenses will be taken care of by Silver Chalice. The first promotion ran before the 2014 ACC Football Championship Game. These newest winners will offer contributions on site focused on the feel of tournament. Both students will graduate Spring 2016.

Natalie Jenkins, Director of Marketing, Silver Chalice and The ACC Digital Network, told me over the phone today, “The Guest Reporter campaigns have identified students at 12 out of 15 conference universities that are either freshmen, sophomores or juniors that want to contribute as part of a larger student contribution.” Each selected participant can mention involvement on a resume and have built a new network which is a process in itself, giving them more professional work contacts outside of school.

Shantel Jordan is a Meredith College junior, Mass Communications major with a minor in Journalism that lives in Raleigh, N.C. as well as a men’s basketball reporter for NC State Men’s Basketball, an ESPNU Campus Connection Correspondent and former Team USA figure skater.

“I’m so thankful for the opportunity to join the ACC Digital Network at the ACC Basketball Tournament this week. It’s an honor to learn from some of the best in the business. I’m interested to see the production from start to finish at a tournament of this caliber,” said Shantel Jordan. “I think the Guest Reporter campaign is a great way to inspire college students to come up with innovative ways to promote the ACCDN. There was a strong group of candidates and I’m very grateful to have been chosen.”

Jacob Dennis, is a Management major with a minor in Journalism at Valdosta State that lives here in Atlanta, GA as a lifelong Georgia Tech fan. He is a current sports writer for the Valdosta Daily Times at the sports desk. Dennis entered the initial campaign this past fall and decided to try to win once again. Look for a day-in-the-life report about daily responsibilities, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and behind the scenes insight to be provided by Dennis.

“I would like to thank the ACC Digital Network for providing me with the opportunity to join their on-site team for the Men’s Basketball Tournament,” said Jacob Dennis. “Sports writing is a field I’ve always wanted to work in, and being chosen as one of the ACCDN’s winners is a great accomplishment.  I look forward to providing some great coverage this week.”

As the ACCDN continues to grow their network of Guest Reporters and contributors, those who are interested in being contacted about future campaigns or opportunities should follow @theACCDN or submit their information at the website.

#ACCStar
The newest component of the ACCDN’s continuous coverage of the tournament is the #ACCStar daily video on-demand segment which the guest reporters are an important part of. Any level of ACC fan is being asked to give their expert opinion to help select the top performer of each day. Participation is done via the following methods:

  • Tweet @theACCDN using the #ACCStar
  • ACCDN On-Site Talent feedback including host @JeffFischel, Jason Capel, Drew Barry and Guest Reporters Shantel Jordan and Jacob Dennis
  • Lockerdome Fan Poll

ACC Social Hub
The ACC.com hosts the ACC Social Hub as part of tournament coverage, updated with sticky content about the tournament, the universities that are competing during the week and each loyal fan base. Fans can also follow the official ACC Facebook page, Vine, @theACC and @ACCMBB on Twitter, and @ACCPIX on Instagram and Snapchat. Customized social data is sortable by school, or simply elect to receive all the engaging social content. Use the social polling feature implemented to allow fans to vote on who they believe will win. During tournament action, Social Hub has designed a live video window letting fans view each game together with social conversations all in one site.

ACC FanFest
ACC FanFest is free and open to the public because it is presented by the Official Corporate Champions of the ACC. It all begins tomorrow, March 10 and continues through Saturday, March 14, featuring live music, games and entertainment. You can be part of the ACC FanFest inside and around the 30,000-square-foot Pavilion adjacent Greensboro Coliseum’s main entrance. Plan on being a part of the fun ACC Corporate Champion attractions, entertaining acts, appearances by zany ACC mascots, special interactive sport court, free face painting for the family and rapid students, and plenty of hot food and cold beverages. At the ACCDN social lounge attendees can check out apps, win swag and provide #ACCStar social feedback. There will be an official Tournament merchandise store, interactive games and novelty stations, daily giveaways, ACC Legends autograph signing and historical exhibits.

Hashtag March Madness
Fischel produced an ACCDN piece on the power of hashtages. The Duke Cameron Indoor Crazies will use #JahWillProvide, while the Virginia student body, alumni and fans will yell and write #HoosYourDaddy. Perhaps the #ACCEvolutionRevolution is finally upon us all the way to the #ACCDanceParty. Be sure to follow hashtag #ACCTourney for the latest ACC tournament info.

Sports Techie, The ACC tournament starts on Tuesday and finishes with a primetime championship game this Saturday.

I attended my first and only ACC tournament back in 2001 in Atlanta while working for Dartfish, a leading sports technology company. You never forget your first time and it was a dandy as I scalped cheap tickets in the nose bleed sections of the Georgia Dome and snuck down to the second row for the championship game between Duke and North Carolina. The courtside seat I scooped out belonged to four attorneys and as luck would have it, their wives left before the game to go shopping so they let me sit beside them and even bought me some cool drinks to boot. Duke won and went on to win the NCAA national championship game.

Experts are predicting that seven teams will be invited to the Big Dance and it all begins tomorrow so get your TV, smartphones, tablets and OTT devices ready to compliment the best ever first and second screen ACC tournament fan experience. Be sure to send Shantel and Jacob a tweet.

See y’all later in Seattle and here in Atlanta.
