adidas Manchester United’s New Kits and Training Gear

The new adidas Manchester United Kits for 2015 – 2016 season breaks expectations this first year of a record-breaking 10-year business partnership. Adidas will actually be producing the new Manchester United F.C. Kits and Training Gear, taking inspiration from classic three-stripe United kits from the 1980s. Adidas has reengineered these iconic designs with a modern twist for the 2015 – 2016 season at Old Trafford football stadium during home matches and on the road for Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League games, as well practice at the Aon Training Complex. Adidas is continuing the activation of #BeTheDifference marketing campaign during United’s kit launch. The United trident is clearly ready to break expectations once again across Europe and with international kids. United will showcase adidas’ expertise in developing sports tech performance products for the football industry you can read more about at the Sports Techie community blog link.

Man Utd Home Kit 2015/16 — Break Expectations — adidas Football

United Sports Business
Manchester United began business in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR F.C. and since becoming Manchester United F.C. in 1902, until about a decade ago, were massive revenue generators because of their soccer dominance, stoic history and loyal fandom. The brands global appeal is led by Sir Robert “Bobby” Charlton, the team England (49) and United (249) record setter for goals. Old Trafford seats 75,635, making it the third-largest stadium and the second-largest football stadium in the UK.

The Glazer family purchased the club in 2005. MCFC suffered their worst Premier League finish after replacing Sir Alex Ferguson the manager of United from 1986 to 2013. The franchise was in debt and demoted from the EPL and Champions League football. Season ticket prices were raised anyway and fans wondered what the executive management strategy was for the club’s future and with Nike Soccer.

Then adidas and Manchester United officially reunited to produce the adidas Manchester United Kits for 2015 – 2016 season after signing a historic sponsorship contract worth £75m-a-year that showed fans, FIFA rivals and detractors that the Glazers trusted their impressive marketing and sponsorship team to reestablish the Red Devils brand as one of England’s, Europe’s and the world’s top brands. The world record £750m kit manufacturer deal is £40m less than the Glazer family paid for the team.

Adidas chief executive Herbert Hainer said, “We expect total sales to reach £1.5bn during the duration of our partnership”

United also secured a record seven-year Chevrolet shirt sponsorship deal with General Motors for $560-million. Next came an eight-year deal with Aon estimated to be worth nearly $30m (£19.6m) a year for the first-ever sponsorship of the Carrington training ground.

The prestigious team was reinstated for 2015 and stands in fifth place of the Barclay’s Premier League with an upcoming match against Liverpool FC next on the schedule. Look forward to Juan Mata, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Daley Blind  to represent the three stripes in the new Man Utd home kit for the 2015/16 season.

New Kits Design, Technologies And Campaign
Adidas designers incorporated familiar style features that were loved by the fans and combined them with the latest performance technologies to produce innovative, modern classics. The new shirts include the latest in adidas lightweight and breathable technologies to ensure the players take to the pitch with the most innovative kit design ever.

The campaign imagery and short films are inspired by the club’s iconic trident taken from the club crest and used by the players to set the tone for the forthcoming season.

Manchester United group managing director Richard Arnold said, “We look forward to sharing the designs for our complete adidas range with fans via our 100m social media connections, as well as seeing them within the stadium and on the streets, creating a new classic design culture, opening a new chapter in Manchester United’s history.”

Adidas’ senior designer Inigo is a lifelong United fan and answered a question about Manchester United’s new kit technology.

What about any technology used in the shirt itself? “The actual fabric on the front panel is this hoop stripe. This is a ventilation structure which is ventilating the players more so it’s basically designed to increase player performance and ventilation whilst they’re playing. There is engineered fabric on the front panel on the shirt that fans can buy, but the actual one the players wear will be the adizero, which is the lightest jersey we offer at adidas and is designed to make the players run faster and play faster,” said Inigo.

Home, Away and Third Kit

The new home kit, which will be debuted in the opening game of the season at Old Trafford, features a classic v-neck cut collar and three stripe design down the shoulder. There is also a graphic design on the hem of the shirt taken from the 1990 shirt famously worn by Ryan Giggs in his debut season.

The new away kit features a white jersey with three red iconic adidas stripes running down both sleeves and a v-neck collar with red trim. The white jersey is complemented with black and red shorts and white socks.

The new third kit is a predominantly black kit featuring an orange pop on the three stripes and the same graphic design featured on the home and away kit. The new all-black kit was engineered to stand out under the stadium lights. With flashes of red brilliance in its design, prepare to light up when away.
