Digital Scout App Powers 80 State Football Championship Participants Tracked On NFHS Networks
Sports technology is fast becoming the difference maker for high school athletic teams as the astounding fact that 80 state championship participants in football during the 2014 season used Digital Scout data, tracked and displayed on the NFHS Network, reveals. The Sports Techie community blog blogged about the Playon! Sports acquisition of Digital Scout last February, here. The NFHS Network is the nation’s leading provider of live high school sporting events for fans viewing enjoyment and business partners with Under Armour. The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), is a joint venture together its member state associations and Playon!
NFHS Sports Tech
Having spent most my career around sports tech systems, solutions and products it is no surprise that the winning sport programs are thirsting for this exact kind of competitive edge. As a result, Digital Scout live football scores and statistics were integrated last fall with the NFHS Network streaming content, while basketball scores and stats are now available for fans, schools and recruiters to peruse on their assortment of digital devices.
High school sports stat tracking is no different than what college football and the NFL are doing via cutting edge software and hardware in an ongoing effort to improve and win games. Live play-by-play is the backbone of streamed NFHS Network’s content so it’s a natural that stats and sponsor advertising are additional key components for end-users to engage with. Players and teams can self-scout themselves and opponents to look for statistical advantages and deficiencies that can make or break a play, game or season.
Whether it was to save time – “Having stats done live saved the coaches a ton of time.” (Head Coach Scott Pingel of Missouri Class 4 State Champion Christian Brothers College High School)
• Track game stats live from your mobile device
• Drive, shot and spray charts for every sport
• Access in-depth player and team reports
• Eliminate time inputting game stats after games
• Instant access to stats for media and parents
• New: Export to Hudl & MaxPreps
Another recent company deployment was the launch of the NFHS Network Scoreboard. HSGameCenter was converted to be a companion web site built for real-time high school score display accompanied by a deep dive array of stats.
Sports Techie, reflecting on all the ground breaking sports tech-centric stories of 2014 makes me think about the pioneering year the NFHS Network and Playon had together after merging Digital Scout metrics, for the benefit of high school sports competitions and the evolution of youth sport, into their sportsbiz strategy. Playon! Sports promises to continue pushing innovation across all sports.
We look forward to continued coverage of all sports technology news around the globe in 2015.
