According to the Quicken Loan web site, “This infographic has some great tips to help pick a perfect bracket in the 2014 men’s college basketball tournament. Trust us. These are tips that will help you in your quest for perfection – and a billion dollars!”
Clayton Closson is the Director of Content at Quicken Loans, and shared his favorite tips.
- 23 out of 24 national champions have been seeded #3 or higher.
- In the last 14 years, teams seeded #14 or higher have only won 7 times total.
- At least one #12 seed has beaten a #5 seed 22 out of the last 24 years. Weird.
- Ken Pomeroy has a formula that I don’t understand but it looks cool and supposedly helps you pick a winner.
Sports Techie, Look no further than tip number one, know your pool. I play in a March Madness pool that adds bonus points for each seeded team. It gets complicated but know that I lost the title during the Big Dance championship game because my bracket’s seed was not ranked as high as my opponents seed. If the final four has huge point values you might be best not picking too many underdogs because Big Data tip number fours says Cinderella teams seeded 14, 15 or 16 that will earn their way to Dallas are rare, and more than one is nearly impossible. Is this the year that the bottom teams finally make to the top?
Know that President Obama picked Michigan State and Louisville, both number four seeds to make the final game at AT&T Stadium. More NCAA tournament tips are available here.
Yahoo has had ongoing issues with online registration and are taking problems on an individual basis as they work thought the issue. My bother and many others got to the registration part where your phone number needs to be submitted but when you click on it, it did not work. Our Sports Techie tip is to use another browser before it happens to you.
Good luck to to all those entering this contest and thanks to Quicken Loans.
