Major League Rugby’s Old Glory DC To Stream 13 Matches On Monumental Sports Network

Monumental Sports Network to Broadcast Slate of Old Glory DC Games During 2024 Season

13 Major League Rugby live matches to air on network beginning March 2

Old Glory DC’s Major League Rugby (MLR) matches are now scheduled to be streamed on Monumental Sports Network during the 2024 season. Look for the home opener versus the New Orleans (NOLA) Gold on the road this Saturday, March 2, beginning at 4 PM ET to start the partnership off. Then, 12 more matches will run on the regional sports network through June when the team’s season ends. The Sports Techie community blog tips our virtual cap to Monumental as they champion the business model at a time when regional sports network businesses across the nation are struggling to transition into a successful model. Video streaming has fast become the preferred method for fans to watch both live and OnDemand sporting events and for sponsors to reach each fan with direct marketing, advertising and messaging. This new broadcast partnership features live game coverage and provides access to live rugby matches to the more than three million subscribers in the network’s footprint, reaching from Delaware to Richmond, VA. Sports tech enhanced MLR broadcasts are also on the way for the 2024 season.

“We are thrilled to welcome Old Glory to the Monumental Sports Network family,” said Caitlin Mangum, Vice President, Content & Programming at Monumental Sports Network. “We are happy to bolster our live programming lineup and offer D.C.-area sports fans the chance to enjoy this exciting and quickly growing sport.”

“Monumental Sports Network is the ideal partner to carry Old Glory and bring all the action, intensity and elegance of professional rugby to the entire Greater Washington Region,” said Old Glory’s Chairman Chris Dunlavey

Old Glory is greater Washington’s only professional rugby team and represents the region in Major League Rugby (MLR), a North American league that includes teams in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, New England, New Orleans, Seattle, Salt Lake City, San Diego and Charlotte. Founded in 2018 by life-long Washington, DC area residents, business leaders, and rugby players Chris Dunlavey and Paul Sheehy, Old Glory added the Scottish Rugby Union to the partnership in 2019 and investors Pablo Calderini, Paxton Baker, and Verdine White in 2023.  Old Glory completed the 2023 season with its first MLR playoff appearance, reaching the Eastern Conference championship game. Sports Techie, both rugby and cricket have taken grip in the United States. Fans from overseas that have immigrated to America bring their passions for these formerly fringe sports and are a large reason why this shift is happening so rapidly. When combined with the growing amount of players and coaches, and strong collegiate play, it makes sense for media companies such as MSE to stream Old Glory direct-to-consumer (D2C) as a viable and sustainable OTT subscription model.

Even though I don’t live in the D.C. region, I will mark down to watch the Old Glory at Seattle Seawolves at 10:30pm on Friday, May 24, because the match is played in my hometown. There is no MLR team in Georgia where I currently reside, maybe next year.

For you Old Glory and rugby fans, enjoy the live streaming of matches all 2024 season long on Monumental Sports Network as well as matches broadcasting on Fox Sports.

Hopefully, they can qualify for the playoffs again and this time bring home a MLR championship to greater D.C. fans.
