Catapult XOS Digital Next Gen Stats
Elite sports has long since moved on from the days of chalk boards and paper playbooks evolving to the modern digital era when expert systems give teams a competitive edge when it comes to staying organized and consistent as a coaching staff with automation while capturing sport movements for analysis purposes. As a result, the new partnership between Catapult and XOS with the Jaguars is sure to make the other 31 NFL teams do their due diligence about the innovative Thunder Radar product and resulting next gen stats.

XOS Digital President and CEO, Matt Bairos, says a partnership with Catapult is the logical next step for the new platform. He said, “Athlete tracking systems are becoming one of the fastest growing trends in all sports. XOS Thunder Radar allows organizations to maximize their investment in these systems by allowing coaches to interpret and visualize biometric tracking data alongside video.”

Tony Khan, Senior VP for Football Technology & Analytics, for the Jacksonville Jaguars feels this convergence of tech will take football performance analysis to a new level. Khan said, “The Jaguars are committed to the very highest standard of technology, which is why we’ve had a trusted partnership with XOS Digital for more than 15 years and rely heavily on our Catapult system to optimize player performance.”

The XOS Thunder Radar consists of advanced analytical player performance data with game and practice video. Video analysis together with wearables produce next gen stats coaches can use to visualize the path of a player with instantaneous feedback on the field during practice or in the weight room enabling muscle memory corrections. The two interface images provided by Catapult show the coach-friendly features and positional data that can be repurposed into play drawings.

The automation of drawing plays saves a pro, college or high school football staff valuable time during the off-season and especially in-season, while keeping everyone on the same page when formation and alignment adjustments, in addition to terminology changes made after breaking down opponent’s game film.

XOS and Catapult are synchronizing player performance data with XOS Thunder HD, the coaching video and analytics platform used by the Jaguars and more than 400 other professional and collegiate teams.

Khan added, “The integration of these two platforms gives coaches and players the quickest access to the most relevant player performance data combined with video, and we’re able to unlock new and powerful insights that will help maximize team performance. The entirety of this offering made investing in Thunder Radar an easy decision.”

Jaguars
Jacksonville is a satisfied client of Catapult over the past three seasons. The Jags provided their players with advanced athlete tracking wearable devices worn during all practices to help eliminate performance management deduction by generating scientific insights about injury risk, practice competition and return to play after sustaining injuries.

Brian Kopp, President of North America for Catapult, understands the upgraded potential of the performance information provided by Catapult with this new partnership. Kopp said, “It was mutually beneficial to work with XOS to create this new workflow for the Jaguars. Introducing our data into a platform used directly by coaches will make our system even more valuable. We look forward to bringing this integrated solution to mutual users, and teams that are looking for the next level in performance analysis.”

Q&A

1. Is this an exclusive arrangement for the Jaguars? This isn’t an exclusive arrangement, they are just the first team to utilize the partnership. They were chosen because of their close relationship to both Catapult and XOS Digital and were willing to be a BETA partner, but we’re already receiving interest from a number of other teams that will also be using the new platform.

2. Will the Catapult and XOS partnership continue into other sports? That is the plan down the track. XOS are very strong in football and hockey, which are two sports where we feel have a lot of expertise and value to provide, so they will likely be the initial sports the partnership is used in.

3. How will the Jags be trained to use Thunder Radar? Just like when teams first started using Catapult and XOS separately, we will work closely with that team with an on-site installation and training session, and follow up with regular support. Catapult has a quickly-growing US team, with six sports scientists in our Chicago office, and XOS have a team of specialists in their Boston office.

4. Will Thunder Radar data be shared with broadcasters and fans? It will not be at this point, although there is obviously a lot of potential there in pairing performance data from wearable technology with video data.

5. What is the price point of Thunder Radar? As the technology integration becomes finalized we will have a firmer answer on that one.

Sports Techie, XOS Digital was founded in 1999, a year after Sports 2000, the inventors of the GridIron 2000 used by the Seattle Seahawks where I was the Director of Sales, folded as a company. So 16-years later it is my privilege to report that the sports tech industry continues to be pioneered by game-changing companies like Catapult and XOS along with cutting edge professional organizations such as the Jags.

Wearable tech is changing the world of sports performance and stats for the top organizations and for those teams that seek to be at the upper echelon of sport.

Catapult and XOS Digital teaming up gives the Jaguars a better opportunity to make the 2015 playoffs and perhaps fulfill the dream of playing in Super Bowl 50 at Levi’s Stadium in 2016.

See y’all later in Seattle, Atlanta and around the world.
