Curling Canada launched Curling Canada +; a brand-new direct-to-consumer online video service offering curling content from the men’s, women’s, and mixed circuits across Canada with additional international events
Canada Curling has a brand-new international OTT video streaming service powered by StreamAMG. Curing Canada + allows the Canadian governing body to deliver both live and on-demand sport content to fans throughout the globe wanting to follow one of the world’s top ranked curling nations. The Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) is a point system designed by Curling Canada to rank Canadian men and women’s curling teams. Beginning in 2023, StreamAMG will provide a suite of digital products enabling Curling Canada and member associations to reach fans in all Provinces and the rest of the world. The Sports Techie community blog has shared many sports technology related stories about StreamAMG and the nation of Canada for our readers and followers to enjoy, however, this is my first curling article. The PHF All-Star Weekend culminates with the All-Star game this Sunday, January 29. Another worthy story across North America is the “Every Child Matters” Indigenous campaign by the NLL. Interested curling fans can subscribe to the new Canada Curling + streaming service for $9.99 per event package.
Fans will be able to stream available live matches and watch on-demand content from various tournaments from the men’s, women’s, and mixed circuits across Canada with additional international events. Selected archived content from previous events will also be available to subscribers from the launch of the service. The platform will launch with the 2023 Canadian under-18 boys’ and girls’ championships.
“Having our streaming platform in place gives us new ways to present our sport and our athletes to fans around the world,” said Katherine Henderson, Chief Executive Officer of Curling Canada. “This is the first step in the process, and we hope to grow this product down the road and give our fans even more content.”
Curling Canada together with their member associations across the country control one of the largest pools of global broadcast competition rights of a national sport governing body anywhere in the world.
Look for these products:
- MediaPlatform, StreamAMG’s core online video platform, providing world-class flexibility and scale, delivering hundreds of millions of hours of content across a wide range of devices every year.
- CloudMatrix content distribution system which features powerful meta data tagging and archival tools within a mobile-friendly, easy-to-use interface.
- The CloudPay platform allows rights-holders to control and manage their subscribers within a user-friendly ecosystem that also manages the payment processes.
“There is incredibly high demand for access to Canadian broadcasts of curling, not just in Canada but around the world,” said Mark Silver, General Manager of North America for StreamAMG. “It’s a privilege for StreamAMG to be supporting Curling Canada in the expansion of their broadcast strategy to domestic and international audiences.”
The national sport governing body responsible for the development, promotion, and organization of curling in Canada. In cooperation with its Provincial and Territorial Member Associations from across Canada, Curling Canada provides programs and services to curlers ranging from the youngest ‘little rocker’ (age 7 and up), to those participating at ages 70 and over – and from aspiring Olympians to Canadians with special needs, coaches, curling facility operators, ice makers and officials. Curling Canada also oversees and provides the comprehensive management of the Season of Champions event portfolio; develops and administers the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) for Olympic qualification; and organizes and operates the championship system for Juniors (under 20, under 18), Seniors (over 50), Mixed Fours, Mixed Doubles, Women, Men, University, College and Wheelchair.
