Monumental Sports Network to Broadcast Eight Live Games during Annual ‘Basketball Day in the DMV’ Presented by CarMax

The annual “Basketball Day in the DMV” presented by CarMax is held on January 20 and broadcasts on Monumental Sports Network. The event showcases top high school, college and NBA matchups. This Saturday’s lineup includes eight live basketball games featuring top Washington D.C. talent representing the National Capital region. This celebration of hoops is presented in partnership with the Washington Wizards NBA franchise. Look for a mix of five high school games, two collegiate games, and the final game of the evening between the Wizards and San Antonio Spurs, lead by the Victor Wembanyama, the first pick of the 2023 NBA Draft. The Sports Techie community blog is virtually onboard with the day’s “Behan Strong” fund raiser for Compassionate Care ALS. Monumental is leading the local media digital way for the greater Washington region.

Basketball Day in the DMV

“Basketball Day in the DMV” represents a special opportunity for college and high school athletes to showcase their abilities on a major platform, as more than three million households are included in Monumental Sports Network’s broadcast halo.

Local basketball fans can watch the games through their Monumental Pay TV subscription, on monumentalsportsnetwork.com, or by downloading the Monumental streaming app on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV and using an eligible TV Everywhere log-in.

“The Greater Washington region has a rich basketball tradition at all levels and we are honored to showcase all our local hoops talent during ‘Basketball Day in the DMV’,” said Friday Abernethy, General Manager, Monumental Sports Network. “While many people are familiar with Monumental Sports Network because of our professional sports team coverage of the Washington Wizards, Capitals, and Mystics, elevating local sports and providing a platform for our talented local athletes is a core value for our organization and we are proud to use our new network and digital assets to foster a sense of community at all levels of athletics across our region.”

Monumental is producing and airing the five high school games at no cost to the schools and each game will include a professional broadcast team similar to those featured at a Wizards or Capitals game, including on-air play-by-play, color commentary, and sideline reporting. Announcers include elite Monumental on-air talent like Christy Winters-Scott, Jimmy Patsos, Wes Hall, and Chase Hughes.

Monumental Is District Hoops Leader

In addition to being the exclusive local television media rights holder for the NHL’s Washington Capitals, NBA’s Washington Wizards, and WNBA’s Washington Mystics, in November Monumental Sports Network announced partnerships with George Washington University, University of Richmond, and Towson University to air live college basketball games on the network during the upcoming season. Monumental’s 2023-24 college basketball slate features 50 games, including 21 women’s games and more than 20 games from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Sports Techie, streaming is here in a big way and this Basketball Day in the DMV is sure to represent this fundamental shift in the future of broadcasting.

Look no further for evidence than the recent NFL Wildcard Round weekend when last Saturday, the Dolphins at Chiefs playoff game was viewed by 23 million paying viewers that subscribed to Peacock making it the largest live steamed event in United States broadcasting history, according to NBC.

A reminder to local basketball fans, watch each game via the Monumental Pay TV subscription, on monumentalsportsnetwork.com, and by downloading the Monumental streaming app on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV and using an eligible TV Everywhere log-in.

The #BehanStrong shooting shirt auction to benefit ALS begins at 6 pm EST on Saturday.

Basketball Day in the DMV begins at 9AM.

Hoop it up in D.C. all day with Monumental after that.
