The PGA Championship powered by Turner Sports is streaming on PGA.com and exclusively on TNT network from Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J beginning this Thursday through Sunday. For the 26th consecutive year, Turner will provide innovative sports technology with live multimedia golf coverage available on digital devices as a first or second screen via PGA.com. This 2016 major tournament features 18 hours of exclusive TNT television footage. Look for new cross-platform sports tech such as Trackman Technology added to GolfTrax laser-generated data, TNT Swing Motion and Bluetooth Beacon course navigation “Binoculars,” for fans onsite, in addition to social content on Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat. The Sports Techie community blog can now view twice the amount of the PGA Championship LIVE featured group featuring the top four marquee daily pairings. Will Jason Day defend his 2015 PGA Championship title, can Rory McIIroy improve on his fifth place showing at The Open, or will autism advocate Jordan Spieth catch fire and earn the Wanamaker Trophy? Download the application and find out using mobile devices and computers, or on television because Turner tech is changing sport for all.
98th PGA Championship – Road To & Preview Shows
98th PGA Championship – Road To & Preview Shows – Sat. July 23 & Sun. July 24 at 2 p.m. ET from PGA of America on Vimeo.
TNT
For the 18th consecutive year, TNT will televise the PGA Championship, an awesome golf event I attended with my brother at Sahalee Country Club in Washington state in 1998. Plan on watching six hours of TNT the first two days of the PGA Championship from 1-7 p.m. ET followed by live third and fourth round coverage Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The TNT commentators are hosts Ernie Johnson known as the voice of Turner’s NBA on TNT’s coverage and Brian Anderson calling his first PGA Championship, both are Sports Emmy Award winners. Look for analysts Ian Baker-Finch and Billy Kratzert, on-course analyst Mike Weir and Amanda Balionis handling pre- and post-round interviews, to round out the insightful and entertaining broadcast team.
PGA.com
The PGA.com website continues to be managed by Turner Sports. Online golf fans can watch double the amount of the Mercedes-Benz PGA Championship LIVE digital streaming featured group coverage. Four featured groups per day are available together with simulcast broadcast coverage and media tent interviews. Mr. Anderson and Brian Katrek are anchoring the PGA.com web delivery along with analysts Kratzert and Michael Breed, plus roving reporters Katrek and Annabel Rolley.

PGA Championship Live
The PGA Championship Live video player platform can be viewed on your desktop computer, iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, or the PGA Championship TV app for those with a Samsung Smart TV, giving fans a wide range of connected access to the Sports Emmy Award winning product. The TNT simulcast requires a user name and password protected TV service provider log in. The CBS coverage on Saturday and Sunday has no log in requirements and is also free to use.
Turner Sports Tech
TNT and PGA.com to Present Expanded Analytics and Virtual Animation
Trackman Technology will be added to GolfTrax’s laser-generated data to enhance TNT and PGA.com’s analytic and virtual animation storytelling on select holes. Trackman tracks key metrics including ball speed, flight apex and distance. In addition, GolfTrax, sponsored by Scottrade, will provide enhanced course visualization, tournament scoring data and player ball position and distances for select groups.
Additional TNT Coverage Highlights
Technical features for this year’s telecast will include TNT Total Motion swing analysis – a super-slo-mo camera delivering a definitive point of view for swing analysis and a review of specialty shots.
PGA Championship Apps for Phones and Tablets
A full suite of interactive PGA Championship apps will return across phone, tablets and select Samsung TVs. Both the Android app, sponsored by Samsung, and the iOS app, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, will offer access to live video, breaking news, “Minute-By-Minute” updates, live scoring, graphical displays, photo galleries, a course tour and on-site spectator resources. For desktop, an enhanced leaderboard will include video clips, shot-by-shot graphical displays and social content sorted by player and hole.
Exclusive 4K Coverage for DirecTV Customers
Together, Turner, CBS Sports and the PGA of America will deliver exclusive 4K content of the PGA Championship. Coverage will air on DirecTV for customers with 4K devices and access. Four-day 4K coverage will start Thursday (12:30-3:30 p.m. ET) with live video from the famous par-three 4th hole at Baltusrol.
PGA Championship LIVE Video Features
Along with multiple live video streams, PGA Championship LIVE will offer highlights of key moments, live scoring, Featured Group shot-by-shot graphical displays using laser-generated data, individualized player scorecards and advanced DVR features.
On-Site Fan Experience
Golf fans attending the event will enjoy a completely immersive experience with access to a wide range of content and resources via the PGA Championship app, including state-of-the-art course navigation. “Binoculars,” using innovative Smart Bluetooth Beacon Technology, will enable fans to identify player groups from a distance. Additionally, the app will feature a player locator and live “Minute-by-Minute” content streaming of the action from the course and behind the scenes. A new “Golf Mode” feature in the app also will allow fans to use their handheld device while not disrupting play. Free Wi-Fi will be available on-course, servicing key hospitality and gathering areas for fans.
Social Content Gives Fans All-Access
Fans can experience the 2016 PGA Championship across a wide range of PGA.com social platforms including special Facebook Live programming, real-time Twitter highlights, and a behind-the-scenes Snapchat Live Story on Sunday. Additionally, innovative 360 and virtual reality technology will capture photos and video which will live on Facebook, giving fans the immersive experience of being on the grounds at Baltusrol with panoramic photos and video.
Long Drive Competition Coverage via PGA.com
PGA.com’s social media platforms will showcase top moments from the PGA Championship Long Drive Competition on Tuesday, July 26, as players are offered the opportunity to hit one shot on hole No. 1 to win a special money clip inspired by the one received by Jack Nicklaus for hitting the longest drive at the PGA Championship in 1963.
Sports Techie, if you attend the 98th PGA Championship in New Jersey I recommend using the “Binoculars,” Smart Bluetooth Beacon Technology to ID groups, locate individual golfers and activate“Golf Mode” that acts like Airplane Mode on your digital devices. The Binoculars use geo-scanning tech around the area you are interested in to deliver the best path through the crowds towards the featured group or player you want to follow.
My favorite sports tech at this event is the Trackman morphed with GolfTrax laser-generated data for an enhanced TNT and PGA.com analytic and virtual animation breakdown by expert analysts. This novel look should speak volumes to every man, women, youth, or elder, whether you are a pro, amateur, rabid, or casual fan. Sponsors should receive a fantastic ROI from these insightful tools.
The Snapchat Live Story content is produced by a dedicated Turner Sports entourage of people that aim to deliver millennial style content for every fans enjoyment.
The CBS Sports and PGA Championship Facebook pages have 360 and #gear360 virtual reality video you can look around the course as if you were there in person.
Follow and use hashtag #PGAChamp to stay engaged with the action.
Should you be in a fantasy golf league, you must use PGA.com and their app as your hub for scoring especially to monitor the weather.
Enjoy this epic live sports event using PGA Championship Live, the website and on TNT, all powered by Turner Sports.
See y’all later in Seattle, Atlanta and around the world.
