Henry Schein Medical Honors Women Trailblazers in Athletic Training on National Girls and Women in Sports Day 2025
On February 5, 2025, National Girls and Women in Sports Day was once again celebrated and again, Henry Schein Medical launched a new YouTube video, this time spotlighting four women athletic trainers from the WNBA. When you think about player health and performance for female athletes at the highest levels, at a time in America’s history when President Trump has set back women rights and career achievements for political, racial and sexist reasons, it makes what Theresa Acosta (New York Liberty), Dr. Christina Kennedy (Washington Mystics), Natalie Trotter (Women’s Professional Basketball Athletic Trainers Association), and Brittanie Vaughn (Seattle Storm), are doing on their WNBA journeys all the more important. Listen as they discuss how women athletic trainers are breaking down barriers in professional sports, a predominantly male profession. The Sports Techie community blog is a strong believer in the benefits of DEI, especially, as they pertain to jobs women can do just as well, and in some cases, even better than men. The short interview reveals each athletic trainers’ (ATs) memorable career moments, the fast rise of women across sports, and advice for individuals early in their careers, plus more valuable lifestyle insights.
“Behind every layup and three-point shot lies a team of dedicated athletic trainers, many of whom are women,” said Megan LoRé, General Manager of Operations for Henry Schein’s U.S. Specialty Distribution Group. “It’s important that we acknowledge the contributions of women athletic trainers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep athletes at their best, physically and mentally. Henry Schein Medical is pleased to support these professionals with products, tools, and resources to help ensure their impact continues to be felt across the health care landscape.”
National Girls and Women in Sports Day was created to honor athletic achievements by women, as well as recognizing the importance of sports and fitness participation for girls and women of all ages, in addition to celebrating the power and uniqueness of women in sports, and the continued push for long overdue equity.
WNBA ATs
From injury prevention to rehabilitation, to fitness, strength training and nutrition, these amazing women are critical both on and off the court. Dr. Kennedy is the Head Athletic Trainer for the Mystics; Vaughn is Head Athletic Trainer for the Seattle Storm; Trotter is Vice President of the Women’s Professional Basketball Athletic Trainers Association; and Acosta is Head Athletic Trainer of the Liberty. In the video, they share hard-earned perspectives on often unseen impact of athletic trainers and how they’re changing the game for all genders.
“Witnessing the diverse journeys of women athletic trainers in our annual video is truly inspiring,” said Eric Kearns, National Sales Director of Henry Schein Medical’s Athletics and Schools business. “As partners, we believe in amplifying the voices of our customers and celebrating their contributions. By supporting the remarkable work done by women athletic trainers, we hope to empower the next generation.”
This year is super important for supporting the achievements of women not only in sports but in all industries, across academics, and throughout career attainments, as the MAGA party continues its attempt to discredit and censor these hard working role models.
The 2025 year celebrates the third year Henry Schein Medical’s Athletics and Schools business has produced a video showcasing women ATs and their contributions. The progressive Company has featured a total of 14 women ATs from three different professional sports leagues, highlighting their expertise, dedication, and impact on athletes and teams. During National Girls and Women in Sports Day 2024, Henry Schein Medical featured ATs representing five National Basketball Association teams.

Sports Techie, the mental and physical preparation it takes to play basketball in the WNBA is really no different than the NBA.
As a longtime hoops fan and player, I would say the WNBA is actually a rougher version of the sport than the NBA at the current moment. Think back or do a search, as to how the game was played by the bad boys of Detroit when the rules allowed for more physical play and the ‘Jordan Rules’ were in effect. That style of game is long gone in the NBA as the players focus more on ‘hero ball’, shooting three-pointers, and rushing to post on social media.
The WNBA is more of a fundamental game, it’s not played above the rim, and fouls are often old school hard, just ask superstar Caitlan Clark.
As a result, in step these highly qualified ATs that treat the athletes, head to toe.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day has become a day when young girls can be shown all the career possibilities available to them.
This day is truly an honorable notion the WNBA, their ATs, and Henry Schein Medical, all take to heart.
