Players Coalition Teams With Strat-O-Matic For Pilot STEM Youth Education Program

Pilot Program Launches In Schools in Five Cities Utilizing Sports Simulation Games to Engage Students; Grows Love of Baseball, Football while Engaging Math and Statistical Skills

Players Coalition, Strat-O-Matic Team To Bolster STEM Education For Elementary, Middle School Children

Players Coalition and Strat-O-Matic just teamed up on a new pilot program designed around sport simulation games and STEM programs. Players Coalition is an independent organization aligned with athletes, coaches, and owners across leagues for improved social justice and racial equality in America. Strat-O-Matic is the clear market leader in sports simulation games. Together, their STEM inspired curricula consist of educational lesson plans around baseball and American football allowing elementary and middle school aged youth the free opportunity to learn a variety of topics such as decimals, fractions, precents, probabilities, data breakdown, statistics analysis, and more. The Sports Techie community blog believes this STEM-based math initiate is a winner for interested instructors and children. With the ALCS and NLSC MLB playoffs ongoing, and the NFL, college football, high school, and youth seasons well into play, the timing of this pilot STEM program is about perfect as numbers can be.

“This partnership with Players Coalition is an amazing opportunity for Strat-O-Matic to get our Baseball Express games into the hands of kids, giving them incredible educational benefits,” said Adam Richman, CEO, Strat-O-Matic Media. “We are proud to work with an organization that is so dedicated to boosting education in areas that have traditionally been underserved, and we know that these five schools will serve as models as we expand the program.”

Strat and Players Coalition Launch Objectives

Eager schools in five cities are the first to execute the program and utilize Strat-O-Matic’s Baseball Express game. It is invented for elementary school aged children and donated by the Glen Head, N.Y. based company to teachers trained to best adopt the game in STEM Clubs, after school sessions and regular lessons. In total, Strat-O-Matic will provide approximately 1000 games to students in the launch schools.

The cities and schools with Players Coalition Player Advocates in the initial phase are as follows:

  • Brandywine Elementary School, Brandywine, MD. (Kyle Arrington, NFL)
  • St. John Paul II Catholic Academy, Boston, MA. (Jonathan Jones, NFL)
  • Northern Light School, Oakland, CA. (Tyson Ross, MLB)
  • 96th Street STEAM Academy, Los Angeles, CA. (TBD)
  • All Star Sportsplex After School Program, Orlando, FL.. (Jemile Weeks, MLB)

“Incorporating fun, user-friendly methods like Strat-O-Matic’s Baseball Express goes a long way in keeping children engaged in learning critical concepts,” said Tyson Ross, Former MLB Player and Players Coalition Advocate.. “We are excited to help get the programs started and we couldn’t be more pleased with the response from administrators and teachers in our pilot locations.”

Strat-O-Matic Bio

Strat-O-Matic was invented by 11-year-old Hal Richman in his bedroom in Great Neck, N.Y. in 1948 as a result of his frustration with the statistical randomness of other baseball board games. He discovered that the statistical predictability of dice would give his game the realism he craved. Over the next decade, he perfected the game at summer camp and then as a student at Bucknell University. After producing All-Star sets in 1961 and ‘62, he parlayed a $5,000 loan from his father (and made a deal that if it didn’t work out he would work for his father’s insurance company) into the original 1962 Strat-O-Matic Baseball season game. Needless to say, Hal never had to take a job with his father.

Strat-O-Matic, based in Glen Head, NY and on the Internet at www.strat-o-matic.com, manufactures the top selling sports board games and realism/stats sports digital games. The Company publishes baseball, football, basketball and hockey games to play both on and off your computer and mobile screens. “Strat-O” games are known throughout the sports community for their statistical realism and accuracy. The Company has the world’s greatest sports game stat libraries with top-of-the-line seasons dating back to the early 1900’s. At the start of the 2016 MLB season, Strat-O-Matic introduced Baseball Daily, its first product featuring digital player cards that update every day to reflect real life current player performance as the season progresses.

The Company has a loyal celebrity following including a bevy of sports broadcasters such as Bob Costas, Jon Miller and Dan Shulman, former MLB’ers Keith Hernandez, Doug Glanville and Cal Ripken Jr., and sports super fans including Drew Carey, Ben Bernanke, Bryant Gumbel, Spike Lee and Tim Robbins. Sports Techie, looking over Strat-O-Matic’s 2023 MLB season predictions, they did a an extremely poor job which just goes to show you a sim is just that and not the real thing. You still have to play the game no matter what the stats say.

Fortunately, math is a right or wrong discipline. Using baseball and football to incentivize children and especially underrepresented kids, the free option to learn a varletry of mathematical disciplines while correcting mistakes, is an awesome concept and one I approve as THE Sports Techie.

Strat School was a similar concept launched during the pandemic in 2020 to assist kids with learning core subjects.

Adding Players Coalition’s holistic mission and their numerous supporters across the sports world to Strat sports sims in a STEM environment makes good sense.

Boys and girls alike, play these STEM-based sports sim games and learn math like never before!

See you later sportstechie in Seattle, Atlanta and around the world!
