Kitman Labs’ Performance Intelligence Powers ‘More Than Equal’ To Close F1 Gender Gap

Leading Sports Science and Technology Company’s Intelligence Platform to be Used To Help Close The Performance Gap for Girls and Women in Motorsport

Quest To Develop First Female Formula 1 Champion

Kitman Labs and More than Equal have just partnered to advance the latter’s mission to find, then develop, the first Formula 1 (F1) champion, by using the former’s leading sports science and performance intelligence solution. Because no woman or girl has raced in F1 in nearly 50 years, the sports technology and analytics company based in Menlo Park, California, will work together with the global independent motorsport initiative based in London, England, to set new auto racing industry standards for how elite sports organizations in the space use data, just as leagues, franchises and universities do in the NFL, NBA, Premier League, NWSL, WSL, MLS and NCAA. As it stands, across 1000+ FIA World Championship races since 1950 British Grand Prix, only five female drivers have competed in qualifying in a Formula 1 Grand Prix. Only two have made it to race day. The Sports Techie community blog has long supported women in sports and are honored to share this compelling story with our global readers and followers. More than Equal seeks to close the performance gap for girls and women in motorsport through commissioning and publishing pioneering research, identifying top female racing talent globally with a data-led approach, as well as introducing a world-class, high-performance female driver development programme.

“More than Equal is on a mission to revolutionize how female racing talent is identified, developed and supported,” said More than Equal CEO, Ali Donnelly. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Kitman Labs to provide our driver cohort with access to best-in-class performance technology, allowing our coaches to optimize and personalize their talent development.”

Kitman Labs Joins ‘More Than Equal’

More than Equal Intelligence Platform

The budding business partnership is to provide More than Equal with an advanced operating system allowing for the centralization of data for female drivers participating in More than Equal’s pioneering Development Programme. This high-performance preparation program supports young, talented female drivers that show the measurable potential to develop into elite racing drivers.

The customized ‘More than Equal Intelligence Platform’ is a single, fully integrated data and analytics platform designed to provide drivers and coaching staff with a never-before-seen, comprehensive, unified and real-time view of the driver’s performance, athletic, and personal development data.

Utilizing Kitman’s latest performance monitoring technology, the proprietary platform enables More than Equal data accuracy as well as the unique ability to convert driver data into actionable insights and intelligence to support evidence-based tactical and technical coaching tailored to their gender and age.

“On a personal and professional level, we couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with More than Equal to help realize their vision as they pioneer a new model in providing elite training and development for talented female drivers,” said Stephen Smith, CEO and Founder of Kitman Labs.

The More than Equal Driver Coaches, in collaboration with elite coaching group Hintsa Performance, plan to leverage the new platform to track and support the drivers’ progress holistically regarding their in-car performance, physical athleticism, and social and cognitive development. The platform ensures the consistent and accurate collection of data for female drivers, with an ultimate goal to optimize the driver’s performance both on and off, race and practice tracks.

The one-of-a-kind platform will be supported by a dedicated staff and player app (iOS and Android), to support the real-time collection of driver data globally.

The racing organization, whose mission is to find, nurture and develop female racing drivers, will leverage several Solutions in iP: Intelligence Platform, including: Performance MedicinePerformance Optimization and Coaching & Development.  A major key to the workflow is how iP will serve as the singular advanced operating system for the Organization – eliminating data and information silos, enabling cross-departmental communication and providing transparency and alignment across all stakeholders.

Sports Techie, only two pioneering female drivers have made it to race day. Maria Teresa de Filippis finished 10th in the 1958 Belgian Grand Prix and 17 years later, Lella Lombardi took home points in the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix.

That is about to change in the near future thanks to the collaboration between More than Equal and Kitman Labs to meet the motorsport company’s mission to develop the first female Formula 1 World Champion.

Understanding the need to use IP Solutions to include, medicine performance and optimization performance, together with coaching and development, in the analytics-driven world of motorsport, to identify, train and produce, women Formula One drivers, and an eventual F-1 World Champion, is my kind of thinking.

Bravo to the forward-thinking partners, and now the technologically robust, initiative.

At the end of the day, it works!
