Heisman Trophy From Notre Dame Auctioned
The 1987 Heisman Trophy earned by wide receiver Tim Brown and his fellow Notre Dame college football team was secured at the Goldin Auctions 2018 Holiday Auction for the final record price of $435,762. The same day Kyler Murray won the 2018 Heisman while playing for Oklahoma. The Fighting Irish and Sooners join Alabama and Clemson as the four teams in the upcoming College Football Playoff. In excess of 900 memorabilia lots sold at the auction but none with more total cost than Tim Brown’s original Heisman Trophy.
Brown’s one-of-a-kind authenticated Heisman trophy received 15 bids. The minimum bid was set at $125,000 and the final price came in at $426,000. Because he was the first WR to ever win the prestigious award representing the best player of the season, bidding was intense.
Brown is also one of nine fellow Heisman trophy winners selected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The O.J. Simpson Heisman was the first-ever to be auctioned off to the public. This coveted collector’s item sold for nearly half a million dollars making it the highlight of an evening full of highlights.
“We believe this is one of the most significant trophies to ever be offered at auction and collectors agreed as the bidding was fierce,”said Ken Goldin, Founder of Goldin Auctions. “It’s rare when a Heisman becomes available and even more unusual for it to be from an NFL Hall of Famer who played at the most storied college football program.”

Brown’s 12-0 Irish match up in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic against the 13-0 Tigers inside AT&T Stadium on Dec 29th at 4 pm on ESPN in one semifinal. In the other semi, the 13-0 Crimson Tide and the 12-1 Sooners square off at Hard Rock Stadium later that night on ESPN at 8 pm.
Disney paid $470 million for the next 12 college football playoffs after landing the broadcast rights. The National Championship presented by AT&T on Jan 7 at Levi’s Stadium is broadcasting on ESPN channels and their apps.
The local University Georgia did not make the final four after losing to Bama in a thriller but Atlanta United won the 2018 MLS Cup over the Portland Timbers breaking this city’s 23-year championship drought.
