Strat-O-Matic Simulation Predicts Celtics Over Mavs To Win NBA Championship

Boston Wins 18th Title over Dallas in Five Games in Strat-O-Matic Simulation

Strat-O-Matic simulated the 2023/2024 NBA Championship series and to no surprise of Las Vegas gambling odds makers, the Boston Celtics managed to nearly sweep the Dallas Mavericks in just five games. The Celtics were tabbed as the champion in Strat-O-Matic’s preseason simulation by the respected game company who also had Boston’s exact season record (64-18) while winning another Eastern Conference. The gamers also projected the Minnesota Timberwolves to win the Western Conference, not the Mavs. Simulations, sports betting and fantasy sports use advanced data and analytics to create third-party “predictions” which are helping to drive fan engagement to lofty levels. The Sports Techie community blog crunched the numbers and predict the Mavs to win in a seven game thriller thanks to what many pundits are saying is the best backcourt in NBA history, led by Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving. Should the Celtics win the NBA Finals with a deeper starting five led by MVP front runner Jayson Tatum, and Atlanta’s own Jaylen Brown, they will have earned the storied franchise a record 18th title, one more than the rival L.A. Lakers.

Celtics Dominate In Five Games

Strat-O-Matic (@strat-o-matic), the market leader in sports simulation games, simulated the championships series which begins Thursday in Boston. The intriguing matchup between the deeper, more balanced Boston squad and guard-heavy Dallas, results in the Celtics winning in a five-game NBA Finals.

Paced by the trio of Tatum (28.4 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 5.6 apg), Brown (26.2/7.0/3.8) and Derrick White (19.4/6.0/5.0), with support from former Mav Kristaps Porzingis (16.4/6.6/2.4) and Jrue Holiday (12.8/5.2/7.2), Boston used that depth to its advantage in taking a 2-0 series lead at home with competitive 135-127 and 128-124 victories, despite having a Head Coach in Joe Mazzulla with limited coaching experience.

After Dallas, led Head Coach Jason Kidd, pulled to within two games to one with a 115-108 solid win at home, Boston took game four handily, 118-103, and game five back home, 123-103, by a more comfortable margin, for its 18th championship.

Dallas’s Luka led all scorers in the series at 35.6 ppg, nearly averaging a triple double with 9.6 rpg and 9.0 apg, and Kyrie contributed 26.8 ppg and 5.6 apg.

Strat-O-Matic

Strat-O-Matic was invented by 11-year-old Hal Richman in his bedroom in Great Neck, N.Y. in 1948 as a result of his frustration with the statistical randomness of other baseball board games. He discovered that the statistical predictability of dice would give his game the realism he craved. Over the next decade, he perfected the game at summer camp and then as a student at Bucknell University. After producing All-Star sets in 1961 and ‘62, he parlayed a $5,000 loan from his father (and made a deal that if it didn’t work out he would work for his father’s insurance company) into the original 1962 Strat-O-Matic Baseball season game. Needless to say, Hal never had to take a job with his father.

The Company has a loyal celebrity following including a bevy of sports broadcasters such as Bob Costas, Jon Miller and Dan Shulman, former MLB’ers Keith Hernandez, Doug Glanville and Cal Ripken Jr., and sports super fans including Drew Carey, Ben Bernanke, Bryant Gumbel, Spike Lee and Tim Robbins.

Sports Techie, I chatted with Richman nearly ten-years ago and enjoyed hearing about Strat-O-Matic’s long and significant history.

Last year, Players Coalition and Strat-O-Matic teamed up on a new pilot program designed around sport simulation games and STEM programs.

Can this upgraded version of the Celtics overcome the pressure of winning an NBA Championship after getting close but not being able to win it all.

Strat-O-Matic sims say so.
