Rocket League Developer Psyonix Signs Gaming Deals With Four NFL Players

PSYONIX CREATES UNIQUE PARTNERSHIP WITH NFL PLAYERS TO STRENGTHEN THE CONNECTION BETWEEN SPORTS AND GAMING THROUGH ROCKET LEAGUE

Psyonix is the Rocket League Developer and today announced the signing of 4 NFL players in a show of commitment towards athletes learning to play the popular soccer video game where hybrid sports meets driving gamification on the screen. The 2021-22 mayhem promises to have George Kittle, Devonta Smith, Mecole Hardman, and Cam Jordan slated to play Rocket League all Season 4 long. Marketing plans are to showcase their customized fan experience to the public by sharing zany, fun and educational gamer experiences over the athlete’s social media handles and Rocket Leagues social channels. The shared socialized manner will offer both proactive content and reactive communications with the millions of fans on Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Epic Games Store. As curator of The Sports Techie community blog, I have two younger brothers. The middle brother is a betting expert while my youngest bro is a full-on, want-to-be professional gamer specializing in Rocket League along with my amazing gamer nephew Rokklen, who also loves playing Fortnite. This breaking news regarding the 4 committed NFL players advocating for the Rocket League is logical and reminds of the industry revolution when video game developers figured out that they needed programmers that knew the sport or game and were not just amazing programmers in order to accelerate growth and sales. When that happened, the games took on another level of realism. It therefore makes sense to work with authentic power users that can influence consumers like Psyonix is doing. Making their way to the top of the Rocket League leaderboard is where you might see these NFL gamers.

The selection process for these NFL players is aligned with the skill level inclusiveness that’s a big part of Rocket League’s gaming philosophy. “Rocket League and NFL football share that universal competitive experience that welcomes rookies, up-and-coming players, and all-stars to compete and strive to become better with each game,” said Eric Correll, Marketing Director for Rocket League, “These four players fit right into these categories, and we’re excited to watch and work with them on the field in Rocket League this season.”

Watch as Kittle, Smith, Hardman, and Jordan (unknown gaming names at publication) work alongside Psyonix doing type chat, using etiquette and just being themselves while adding to their statistics. Compiled offensive and defensive game stats include goals, assists, shots, shot types, and saves. The tech also tracks how many days you’ve play consecutively and much more.

This campaign kicked off Rocket League’s launch of their 2021 NFL Fan Pass, and comes on the heels of a banner year for Rocket League as the dynamic car soccer game has launched multiple partnerships with sports leagues such as F1 and NASCAR, tapping into other athlete talent for activations with the help of Rebel. Looking to get an early advantage, Mecole Hardman put out a call on Twitter to start honing his skills against some stiff Rocket League online competition.

Sports Techie, Rokks333 is my brother Rolando’s user name and he currently plays in the following divisions – 1v1 Gold II, 2v2 Platinum I, and 3v3 Gold III. Enter Challenges to move up levels, win banners and after so many wins, your level bars goes up.

Rocket Leaguers are hosting tournaments all day long. About three years ago my brother played with someone he believed was the actual Gronk himself who wanted to trade keys for my bother’s rare tires in an older reward format.

Chaos 4v4 is for casual matches and has an American football kicked to your car.

Does all this mean a Rocket League NFL football version is around the corner? I can’t answer that but thinking logically yourself, add it all up. My brother does not believe so as he said this activation follows in the footsteps of the WWE and Super Bowl LVI model.

I say, perhaps all these activations are just the tip of the iceberg, or not.

Either way, enjoy watching this foursome of eager NFL players showcase their Rocket League skills and activities.

I just watched Smith and his Philly Eagles tear up the Falcons yesterday on local TV and he looked like an All-Pro in the makings. If he makes it this year, he would join Kittle and Jordan, both former All-Pro team selections.

See you at the top!
