Slam Media, Playmaker, and Heart and Hustle Productions sign on with Basketball Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady’s new venture, Ones Basketball League.

Tracy McGrady’s Ones Basketball League Signs With Slam Media, Playmaker And Hustle Productions

Ones Basketball League (OBL) was developed by Basketball Hall of Fame legend Tracy McGrady as an elite hoops competition season. OBL will attract, host and showcase the game’s best, one-on-one ballers with compelling 1v1 play highlighted by storytelling captured, edited and distributed in short form video clips generated by three new digital partners – SLAM Media, Playmaker and Heart and Hustle Productions. The premier season’s first event was in Houston, TX this past weekend where the company is headquartered. The next tour stop is here in Atlanta this weekend very close to where I live. Will the ‘One Ruler of the Court’ concept work? The Sports Techie community blog is all in with the OBL. I was the Rockets moderator for an online community run by Wetpaint from 2008-2010 and loved curating for the organization, their loyal fans located all over world and United States, and for their NBA All-Star players McGrady and Yao Ming, and the rest of the team. Painting a digital story about OBL’s inaugural entrants sounds like a real, feel good 2022 winner as society emerges from the COVID pandemic.

Ones Basketball League (OBL) Digital Storytelling Coming To Atlanta May 7-8, 2022

Atlanta Hosts May 7-8

Starting this past weekend, seven total cities across America plan to host the two-day, regional, 32-player round-robin knockout tournament comprised of athletes aged 18 and up who are currently not under an NBA contract and have not been on an active NBA roster for more than 164 games (equivalent to two NBA regular seasons). The next OBL Atlanta/Chamblee event is scheduled for this weekend.

Each talented participant will be found from a combination of reviewing open-sourced video submissions and listening to the advice of basketball experts. The goal is to welcome both best-in-class talent and skilled players who may still be under the radar of most basketball fans. The inaugural events this year will feature only men, and women will be welcomed as equal participants as soon as 2023.

The winner of each regional tournament will take home a $10,000 cash prize along with an invitation to the Finals, which will see 21 players (the top three from each region) compete for a chance to win a $250,000 grand prize and be crowned “Ruler of the Court.”

Slam Media, Playmaker, and Heart and Hustle Productions sign on with
Basketball Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady’s new venture

“Our initial focus is on short form digital storytelling to capture the journey of our competitors and we know SLAM, Playmaker, and Heart and Hustle are a winning combination to help us shine a bright light on the essence of basketball and exciting young stars headed our way,” said Lisle Bowen, OBL’s Creative Director. “SLAM is the definitive voice of basketball culture, Playmaker has an elite influencer network that will amplify OBL’s reach, and Heart and Hustle Productions’ extraordinary production team will capture all of the rich stories we find on and off the court.”

Each of the three partners will add their digital skill set to OBL this season:

SLAM Media will co-produce OBL digital content in and around every event this season, build the OBL storytelling platform week-to-week, and drive engagement with its ardent basketball and pop culture audience of more than 16 million.

Playmaker will amplify OBL’s content and brand. expand the league’s social media presence, and integrate Playmaker social media talent into the OBL experience, and expose OBL to an audience in excess of 12 million at launch.

Heart and Hustle Productions’ world-class production team will capture every moment of the inaugural OBL season, produce compelling stories from on and off the court, and ensure the league is well positioned to engage with its growing audience on the platforms and media that matter most.

The regional tournament schedule for the first season of the OBL season is:

Houston, April 30-May 1 (The Dub Sports Zone, Richmond, TX) – COMPLETED

*Atlanta, May 7-8 (CORE4 Atlanta, Chamblee, GA)

Chicago, May 21-22 (Chicago Hope Academy Athletic Center, Chicago, IL)

New York City, May 28-29 (Major R. Owens Community Center hosted by New Heights, Brooklyn, NY)

The DMV, June 4-5 (The St. James, Springfield, VA)

The Bay Area, June 11-12 (The Ultimate Fieldhouse, Walnut Creek, CA)

Los Angeles, TBD (TBD)

Sports Techie, business startups are often playing catch-up with their launch. OBL has a new web site launching shortly. I was hoping to see results, images and videos of the Houston event with the players stories. At the existing site, you can click to apply for your city to host an OBL tournament. Hey, Seattle and Detroit!

My new favorite NBA player is Ja Morant on the Memphis Grizzlies. Imagine how he would fare in the OBL. The video clips of his amazing dribbling, lighting quick drives, dazzling shooting, and acrobatic dunks, is the kind of player profile I believe this inaugural season will produce.

Perhaps Georgia will produce the first OBL champion this Friday and Saturday.

Will the OBL champ be you or someone you know?

Wondering out loud if the remaining events will be streamed later in the season?

I hope live streams will come in 2023 along with a female season.

I can’t wait for the digital storytelling by SLAM Media, Playmaker and Heart and Hustle Productions.
