La Vida Baseball’s New Specials Highlight Hispanic Heritage Month With Marquee Sports Network

La Vida Baseball, Marquee Sports Network Form Content Partnership Highlighting Latino Players

La Vida Baseball announced today their continued partnership with Marquee Sports Network, this time to produce original content for Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) showcasing the impact made by Latino players, in particular, past and present Chicago Cubs. TeamWork Media owns La Vida Baseball and intends to produce unique features and a 30-minute documentary style show sharing about impactful Latino Cubs players, coaches and front office executives over the years. The clips and shows plan to place extra emphasis on fans, music and the culture surrounding the Cubs extended family. Look for the September 15 start date of HHM to begin the rollout by La Vida Baseball as they plan to both entertain and engage all fans but especially the Latino baseball familia using video, live shows and social media posts. Marquee Sports Network is a regional sports network and the exclusive television partner of the Chicago Cubs where Cubbie fans can look forward to viewing this exclusive content beginning September 15 and running throughout the month during live game broadcasts. The Sports Techie community blog last covered La Vida Baseball more than a year ago. The lifestyle media company and its partner Marquee have recently launched other Spanish friendly storytelling platforms to the delight of six million English-preferred U.S. Latino fans per month.

All-Time Cubs

Digital media has opened the production door and viewers eyes, ears and senses to real-life stories told with the assistance of the latest technologies.

For this reason, look for footage dating back to when the Cubs created history in the middle of World War II back on April 15, 1942, when Hiram Bithorn became the first Puerto Rican in Major League Baseball. To further set the Latin player trend, the team also played Cuban catcher, Sal “Chico” Hernández, and Mexican American pitcher, Jesse Flores.

“The history and ties of some of the greatest Latino players in MLB history goes through Chicago, and we are proud to be able to expose these stories to a new audience, as well as highlight some of the Cubs current and rising players through this partnership with Marquee Sports Network,” said Jesse Menendez, Managing Director of La Vida Baseball. “This type of expansive storytelling is what we have built our platform on, and we look forward to reaching an even larger audience as we head towards September.”

The reality is, the list of Latino players on the Cubs roster going forward through time did not set the Major Leagues en fuego. It took a wise, crosstown trade with the rival White Sox to bring in a young and budding superstar named Sammy Sosa, before a true Latino legend wore the Cubs jersey with pride. As a result, Latinos have shown to be among the most loyal of Cubs fans at Wrigley Field in all of MLB, to this day and beyond, steroids’ or not.

Next came Aramis Ramírez and Carlos Zambrano making it a Latino trio playing together to try and break the franchise’s century-long World Series curse. It finally happened after more than 100-years in 2016 when the like of Javy Báez, Willson Contreras, and Miguel Montero helped win the World Series.

In 2018, the La Vida Baseball web website complied a Latino Top 10 list creating the rankings based on WAR as calculated by Baseball-Reference.com.

More Latino Heritage

La Vida Baseball and Marquee recently launched “Locker Room Talk,” the weekly discussion focused on women, in particular, Latinas, across sports hosted by Julie Alexandria and Jennifer Mercedes, “Being Guillén”, a zany weekly show and podcast hosted by former World Series Champion manager Ozzie Guillén and two of his sons, Ozzie Guillén Jr. and Oney Guillén; and “Polvora, Voz & Diamante”, a high energy Spanish language show hosted by Jesse Castillo, a two-time Mexican League MVP, Polo Ascencio, the Cardinals Spanish language broadcaster, and Mexican rock star Pliego Villarreal.

Earlier in 2021, La Vida Baseball launched “The Year of 21,” in tribute to Roberto Clemente as a multi-platform content initiative created to inform, engage and educate fans worldwide about his life, societal impacts and legendary legacy.

“We are excited to partner with La Vida Baseball to deliver these great stories to our fanbase as we head towards Hispanic Heritage Month on September 15,” said Mike Santini, SVP Programming and Production of Marquee Sports Network. “There are few more vibrant Latino cultures tied to baseball than the one in Chicago, and the Cubs have been, and will continue to be, deeply tied to that audience.”

La Vida Baseball’s New Special Highlights Hispanic Heritage Month With Marquee Sports Network

Sports Techie, when I say Northsiders, it is said without truly knowing what that means to Cubs fans.

But plenty of beisbol fans in Illinois and around the world absolutely do.

Now, because of the new HHM shows and entertaining content by La Vida Baseball, every Cubs fan, whether Latino or not, can learn more about the successes, struggles and place in history, Hispanic’s have played in Cubs lore.

“Let’s play two,” said the Hall of Fame Cubs shortstop, Ernie Banks, that translates to, “juguemos dos.”

My Mother is from Ecuador so when I say enjoy Hispanic Heritage Month, I truly mean it!
