2023 RISING STAR AWARD

Honor Recognizes Emerging Athletic Trainers in the Sports Medicine Industry

The Henry Schein Medical Athletics and Schools 2023 Rising Star Award is now open for nominations. The U.S. medical business of Henry Schein, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSIC) is celebrating National Athletic Training Month in March, with Henry Schein Medical’s announcement today. Nominations for the 2023 Rising Star Award must be submitted here by March 6, 2023. Interested emerging athletic trainers with one to five years of experience in the sports medicine industry can learn more about the nomination guidelines here. The Sports Techie community blog is further excited to share the news that the winner will receive an athletic trainer’s kit filled with Essity supplies and a Compex Sport Elite 3.0 muscle stimulator. Henry Schein Medical’s Athletics and Schools business has continued to champion the important role of athletic trainers.

“At Henry Schein Medical, we understand the vital role athletic trainers play both on and off the field, and this award is part of our commitment to elevating the profession,” said Eric Kearns, National Sales Director, Henry Schein Medical’s Athletics and Schools business. “Athletic trainers are mentors, essential health care workers, support systems, friends, and so much more, and we are pleased to recognize those individuals who are already making a difference early in their careers.”

Rising Star Award Process

Created in 2021, the annual Rising Star Award recognizes recently graduated athletic trainers in the United States who have not yet reached a senior chief-level position but have a strong career trajectory with the potential of forward advancement and appointment at the highest levels of the profession.

Nominated by their peers, six finalists will be selected by the Recognition Committee, a panel comprised of athletic trainers and industry experts in the field. Together, the committee members bring experience from an athletic training perspective of broadly diverse size, type, and geographic distribution.

The six respected finalists will be selected on March 13, 2023. Once finalists are chosen, voting for the 2023 Rising Star Award winner will be open to the public on the Henry Schein Athletics Facebook page and Henry Schein Medical LinkedIn page from March 20, 2023, through March 26, 2023. The 2023 Rising Star Award winner will be notified on March 29, 2023.

Former Recipients

Last year’s 2022 Rising Star Award was presented to Caitlin Hart, Head Athletic Trainer at Newberry High School in Newberry, South Carolina. Kearns spoke with Ms. Hart about the future of the athletic training profession and what it meant to win the award. Click here to watch the conversation. The inaugural recipient was Darlene Eckhardt, Head Athletic Trainer at the Buffalo Beauts, a professional women’s ice hockey team in the PHF, and is featured here.

PFATS

Beginning in 2011, the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society (PFATS) annual Tim Davey Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year award has been sponsored by Henry Schein Medical Athletics and Schools, recognizing the commitment, dedication, and integrity of one trainer from each of the two conferences in the professional football league. As part of this sponsorship, Henry Schein Medical awards $1,000 to each, with $26,000 awarded through 2022.

Sports Techie, ask yourself, who is the glue of a sports team playing football, basketball or baseball, and hockey or volleyball, or for individual athlete competing in sport like track and field, tennis, MMA, or golf?

For me, it is the athletic trainers.

Just like Henry Schein Medical provides for their 1 million health care professional customers, athletic trainers deal with many different clients at the same time but treat each one with utmost care and attention to detail.

Both the trainers and Henry Schein Medical Athletics and Schools are the go-to, expert resource for guidance, performance and health.

Our Whittier College lacrosse trainer back in 1984 through 1986, was the special person that kept us in shape, drove us physically to be better, all while sharpening our athleticism on a daily basis. Taping ankles, rehabbing injuries and ensuring our wellness is just a small part of what athletic trainers do for teams and athletes. Yet, like Henry Schein Medical’s trusted advisors, they do so much more.

Here is our virtual, one handed, cheer to the Rising Star Award nominations and final winner for 2023.

You are cherished beyond words.

See you later sportstechie in Seattle, Atlanta and around the world!
