Innovation for France.tv Paris 2024 – 100% Cloud and 5G, a First in Broadcast History

France Télévisions will create broadcasting history with the 100 percent cloud-based broadcast of the Relay of the Olympic flame delivered entirely on a 5G/Starlink network leveraging TVU Networks proprietary solutions. The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games host broadcaster will launch the innovative France.tv Paris 2024 Olympic Channel next month, beginning on May 8. The sports business alliance has committed to greater energy and environmental sustainability by transforming its broadcasting methods, adopting solutions for the flame’s journey that leverage cloud technology, 5G, Starlink, and the use of drones. The end goal is to unite all of France and their citizens worldwide starting with the traditional Olympic flame and the moment it reaches France. For this purpose, France Télévisions has chosen the comprehensive tools and ecosystem provided by TVU Networks.

France.tv Paris 2024 is scheduled to air 10 hours of live coverage per day, tracking the 68-day, 1625 km epic journey, covering 64 territories and 65 celebration sites, while visiting more than 400 towns, with 10,000 Olympic torch bearers, available on the France.tv app, through connected TVs, and via digital platforms that host France.tv.

The ground-breaking approach, conceptualized for even simple live productions, becomes the new broadcasting standard through application to every component of production for an event of such scale, magnitude and complexity, including live feeds, multi-camera switching, graphics, commentaries, audio mixing, intercom, and playout.

Look for the Olympic Torch Relay to start on April 17 in Olympia, Greece, then it moves to Athens. After boarding the Belem, it crosses the Mediterranean Sea to Marseille. On May 8, the Olympic flame starts its path across France. Step 68 finds the Olympic flame back in Paris on July 26 for the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.
