Creed III Is Michael B. Jordan’s Directorial Debut As Adonis Fights Childhood Friend

Creed III starring and directed by Michael B. Jordan, the latest in the Rocky franchise

CREED III is in theaters and IMAX 3/3/23

Flash forward seven years in MGM movie time to Creed III, in theaters March 3, 2023. Creed III is the third installment in the successful Rocky franchise spinoff and is Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut who also stars again as Adonis “Donnie” Creed. Times have been good to the WBC heavyweight boxing champion of the world as he lives out his dream life while respecting the sport and his heritage. With his wife, Bianca Taylor (Tessa Thompson), and daughter, Amara, they moved the family from Philadelphia to Los Angeles because of his exploding career and business interests. The Sports Techie community blog promotes and reviews movies on occasion and I am honored to share the release news about Creed III. The first Rocky movie came out in 1976 when I was ten-years old. I can watch it and the other Rocky flicks again and again, like they are still fresh, the same with Creed and Creed II. Jordan was born in 1987 so it will be interesting to see his storytelling take as the director of Creed III as he blends in parts of the past he did not live through, with the present he lives in, intertwined with the unknown future of the popular boxing, family, career, and lifestyle, movie franchise. One new fan he can count on some day is my son, Kellan. He will be a ten-year old next year when Creed III is released in a cool twist of generational, fandom fate.

When a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian (Jonathan Majors), resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring

Damian is Jonathan Majors

The new boxing film’s main plot involves Donnie’s childhood friend and himself, both former boxing prodigies. Damian (Jonathan Majors) spent 18-years in prison for an unknown crime Adonis was possibly involved with and it appears, Damian took the fall for. Now that he’s release from doing time, Damian wants to reconnect with Creed, his neighborhood brother in bonds and deeds, and is determined to make his mark in the ring, with the help of his old friend until they aren’t friends anymore.

Familiar Faces

Add in appearances by Creed’s trainer, Tony “Little Duke” Evans, played by Wood Harris. Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed, Apollo Creed’s (Donnie’s Dad) widow and the grandmother that adopted him. Plus, Florian Munteanu, back in his role as Viktor Drago. The epic final fight showdown between the childhood buddies looks to be an ending worthy of the Rocky and Creed franchises.

Not cast in the movie is the original Rocky Balboa character, Sylvester Stallone, a major character in Creed and Creed II although he is one of the film’s producers.

Sports Techie, MGM will spin off the Drago franchise from Creed. The franchise roots will always belong to Rocky. Creed I consider to be the franchise glue.

The last film I wrote about was the Space Jam: A New Legacy soundtrack.

Creed, Rocky and boxing are a diverse mix of culture and sport I truly enjoy sharing with our international readers and followers.

Fear and guilt are powerful motivators. You’ll have to see the film, hopefully with IMAX technology, to understand how these emotions play into Creed III.

You can’t run…from your past.

See you later sportstechie in Seattle, Atlanta and around the world!
