deltare and NBC to build the London Olympics web site

NBCUniversal Media partners with deltatre to build the NBC Olympics Website for the London Olympic Games. When you think about sports technology, digital media and events, does deltatre and NBC come to mind, Sports Techie? To me they do because that is what we are good at. Of course NBC does for us all, they are gynormous innovators of sports technology and the Olympic Games are where they showcase the latest software, hardware and Solution goods. But deltatre, who are they?

These 2012 London Olympic Games will produce record breaking web traffic, well over the one billion mark, which will produce a massive compilation of data. Most all that data will be accompanied by robust graphics that need proper bandwidth. Factor in all the new mobile device exchanges that need to be managed. Now what does that sound like, ST ? One big sports tech mess.

Deltatre is the sportsbiz company that will be harnessing this digital chaos and delivering it back in real-time, while also having it all available online whenever you the worldwide fan happen to be perusing the NBC Olympics web site. Formats, schedules, apps, hackers, distribution rights, language barriers, you name it, this is super cluster of content and deltatre is the sports tech company in business to make it so for their third consecutive Olympic Games together with NBCUniversal Media. The list of Sports Federations alone that deltatre works with is top shelf. Remember the name ST, deltatre.

And then there is NBC, one of the Granddaddy broadcasters of the Olympics Games and a name that we all know. Furthermore, they are owned by Comcast, my personal provider of cable TV and Internet services. In fact, just today I called and got a sports package that includes the NFL Network and RedZone for a lower monthly fee as long I locked into a contract.

Officially: NBC, America’s Olympic Network, has broadcast a total of 12 Olympic Games, more than any other network. The 2012 London Summer Olympics will be NBC’s 13th Olympic Games broadcast and seventh consecutive. At the conclusion of the 2020 Summer Olympics, NBC will have broadcast 17 Olympic Games and 11 consecutive.

If that does do not put NBC automatically into the Sports Techie Hall of Fame, we have a problem, Houston. Deltatre, you are certainly on our HOF radar.

All of ST knows the brand names of NBC and Comcast because they are the best at what they do, just like we should now know the name, deltatre.

My final ST blog thought is about the statement below by Ciaran Quinn, Director at deltatre, it is compelling in that it speaks volumes about the magnitude, challenges, and goals, NBCUniversal wants and expects for the 2o12 London Olympic Games.

“Watching sports via digital devices is not about just streaming video – it’s about giving the fans a complete experience bringing together photos, articles, interactive schedules and detailed, interactive results as well as social aspects and a feeling of community.”

Below is today’s press release shared with me by Siena Dixon, Communications and Marketing, deltatre media limited – mediahouse. London, England.

Torino, Italy – October 19, 2011 – For the third consecutive Olympic Games, NBCUniversal Media has selected deltatre to build and support one of the most sophisticated event-based websites in the world: NBCOlympics.com. Viewers who are located in the United States will be presented with the finest web experience ever offered for NBC’s coverage of the Olympic Games.

Gary Zenkel, President NBC Olympics, said “We are thrilled to have renewed our long partnership with deltatre. They continue to be the gold standard in digital sports media platform development”

Ciaran Quinn, Director, deltatre, said “We’ve had the pleasure of working with the NBC Olympics team since before the Beijing Games with the goal of giving their online viewers a terrific Olympic experience. Watching sports via digital devices is not about just streaming video – it’s about giving the fans a complete experience bringing together photos, articles, interactive schedules and detailed, interactive results as well as social aspects and a feeling of community. NBCOlympics.com knows what fans want and will deliver them a fantastic service for the coverage of London 2012.”
