NASCAR And Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Year 2 Of STEM Based Online Learning Platform

NASCAR Drives STEM Learning for Boys & Girls Clubs of America Youth with Digital Content and Experiences

Because of NASCAR, 4.6 million Boys & Girls Clubs of America youth and teens can engage with STEM applications, content and experiences through the MyFuture digital learning platform and racing themed programs. The Official Youth Community Partner of NASCAR enriches their nationwide Boys & Girls Clubs’ members by partnering to help kids and teens learn about track configurations, optimal race course racing trajectories, and wind drag resistance effects on a NASCAR Next-Gen stock car’s speed, as part of the educational programming. Advanced technologies and science are key drivers of the NASCAR and BGCA, MyFuture, online learning platform. The Sports Techie community blog covered the launch of this fun and compelling NASCAR and BGCA multi-year partnership last year when the pandemic was disrupting normal family routines. Today’s announcement comes from DAYTONA BEACH, Florida.

MyFuture

NASCAR’s digital integration with MyFuture represents an integral part of its work with BCGA, by allowing youth across the nation to learn and engage with the racing-themed, STEM learning modules without geographical or economic barriers. The nationwide partnership launched in 2021 and focuses on three core areas – STEM education, career development and DE&I initiatives – and features both virtual and at-track experiences in NASCAR race markets.

Throughout the 2022 season, the MyFuture goal once again was to enhance Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the nation with workforce readiness career exploration and programming. Members work to earn MyFuture “badges” by interacting with original content and then finishing associated challenges or activities. Look for web based instruction on how to design your own racetracks to demonstrating the aerodynamic principle of downforce using a simple sheet of paper.

“In NASCAR, there are elements of STEM at work constantly across many facets of our sport and that’s especially true on race day,” said Eric Nyquist, Chief Communications and Social Responsibility Officer, NASCAR. “We’re proud to engage Club kids with NASCAR content that is both fun and educational, and that drives a key area of focus for our important partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America.”

MyFuture educational videos are hosted by NASCAR driver and on-air talent Mamba Smith

MyFuture NASCAR activities focuses on video content developed by NASCAR Studios designed to demonstrate each subject or topic. NASCAR driver and on-air talent Mamba Smith acts on the educational videos host with features that include other drivers, crew members and representatives of the NASCAR industry.

Another key component of NASCAR’s MyFuture are the more than 500 self-directed activities. This digital platform was created to encourage young people to learn new skills, earn career certifications, explore different interests, share creative projects and participate in events and contests without constraints. Participating members can earn recognition for their work while keeping track of their progress and journey on a learning pathway toward mastering new skills.

Check out interactive content features, lessons and activities on The Science of Speed, racetrack design, live race broadcasts, the “3 D’s of Speed” (Drafting, Downforce & Drag). New driver Rajah Caruth made his driving and NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Richmond Raceway. He joins Smith to help explain the “3 D’s of Speed” and their impact on cars during a race. Look for a multi-part video series on NASCAR pit crew training exercises, featuring a segment with pit crew coach Rocko Williams and crew members from Trackhouse Racing Team providing BGCA children and teens a video tutorial on what it takes to train like a professional pit crew member.

This Sunday, 10/23/2022, NASCAR is hosting 20 teenagers from the Hank Kline Boys & Girls Club in Miami at Homestead-Miami Speedway to take part of the year-round, at-track engagement program. The NASCAR Cup Series race-day experiences that run through the 2023 race season, provide interested youth hands on experiences and knowledge of career opportunities available in the NASCAR industry, especially important for Club teens entering the workforce in the next several years.

Sports Techie, I grew up attending the BGCA in my youth well before the NASCAR partnership. Interesting, at the BCGA web site and NASCAR partnership page, Boys & Girls Club alumni like me can fill out a small form and let the non-profit organization know you are out there: https://bgca.org/about-us/our-partners/nascar

My son is 9-years old and his brother is 5-years old meaning they can both benefit from NASCAR’s MyFuture like any kid across the country can with access to a nearby Club.

Just make it so and the rest is STEM driven, educational, fun thanks to NASCAR, BGCA and MyFutures.

See you later sportstechie in Seattle, Atlanta and around the world!
