NBRPA Legends 2022 HBCU $10K Scholarship Application Good To Go

The National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA) 2022 Legends HBCU Scholarship application opened today

The National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA) 2022 Legends HBCU Scholarship application opened today at legendsofbasketball.com/HBCU. Current undergraduates attending HBCUs nationwide can apply for the scholarship fund and scholars program until 11:59pm ET on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. Five applicants will be selected as Legends Scholars earning a $10,000 scholarship in recognition of academic excellence and desire to make a positive and purposeful impact in the world. The NBRPA is helping to address the career and financial needs of Legends Scholars. The Sports Techie community blog covered this Historically Black College or University, and NBRPA story last year too. Stay positive in the wake of today’s bomb threats at several HBCUs.

NBRPA OPENS 2022 LEGENDS HBCU SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Legends Scholars Key Benefits

The Legends HBCU Scholarship and Legends Scholars program were created in 2020 under the NBRPA’s Legends Care initiative as a way to honor the rich history of HBCUs and their alums while moving the legacy forward by supporting current HBCU undergraduates.

A comprehensive scholars program is designed to assist Legends Scholars in the areas of career preparation and development, job placement and mentoring both during and after their undergraduate years.

The inaugural class of Legends Scholars was announced in July 2021 and includes:

  • Damon Germaine Bryan Jr | South Carolina State University, Class of 2022
  • Erin Foster | Spelman College, Class of 2024
  • Saniya Keeton | Tuskegee University, Class of 2023
  • Tyrell Miller-Johnson | Central State University, Class of 2023
  • Jayla Imani Thornton | North Carolina A&T State University, Class of 2024

To follow along with the NBRPA, find them on social media at @NBAalumni on TwitterInstagramYouTube and Twitch or on Facebook at NBA Alumni.

Sports Techie, reports of new bomb threats targeting multiple historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) is causing schools to close and classes to be postponed as students and staff deal with the realities of American racial tensions.

Schools receiving threats: Albany State University, Bethune-Cookman University, Bowie State University, Delaware State University, Howard University and Southern University and A&M College, according to spokespeople, (NPR) statements and social media posts.

My hope after learning about this is one of the five NBRPA 2022 Legends HBCU Scholarship application winners does something with their college degree to directly help end systematic racism in the USA.

Make it so.

See you later sportstechie in Seattle, Atlanta and around the world!
