The best helmets in the world cannot prevent concussions

I’ve suffered concussions from playing lacrosse and crashing a Mt Bike in the city. I think back and wonder about those cold and wet soccer balls we had to head down at Marymoor Park that could not have been good for us. Played football in 5th and 9th grade and I’m pretty sure I got by ok but time will tell. Writing this Blog is eye-opening and scary; however, I know sports technology such as the kind Schutt Sports develops will forever help improve football player’s protective devices.

Helmets protect the body’s most vital organ the brain and ultimately help reduce concussions...

Sports Helmets: The Science Behind The Safety

Football is a dangerous sport, and participation rates among young players indicate concerned parents are taking notice. Pop Warner, the largest youth football program in the U.S., lost 23,612 players from 2010 to 2012, the largest decline in the organization’s history, according to ESPN Outside The Lines. USA Football experienced a 6.7 percent decline in participation from 2010 to 2011.

Some kids are simply focusing on one sport. But Dr. Julian Bailes, Pop Warner’s chief medical officer, told ESPN that head injuries and their link to mental illness later in life have caused the popularity of all contact sports to suffer...

One Year of Sports Techie and Twitter

Year One
One year and over 30,000 tweets ago, I started tweeting at @sportstechieNET and let me tell you, it has made a huge difference in my life. I have learned so much about the world, our divine spirits and the guiding light in everything. Love not hate is the way people. Ask your faithful animal, he or she will tell you the same. This Sports Techie blog is to pay my respects to my followers, friends and anyone else who reads my tweets. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul.

It would be nice to talk about each one my 2,000 plus friends and followers but that’s impossible. I will give props though to everyone for all the retweets, mentions, conversations and so on. No way in heaven I can do that all in one page here...

Sports Techie at Safeco Field

Welcome to the first Blog in Sports Techie history. O’ Sports Techie is short for Original Sports Techie. That’s me in the picture above at a 2010 Seattle Mariners game at Safeco Field. I’ve been in the sports technology career mode for 15 years which is about 75ish in tech years. Sports Techie has a born on date of March, 2010.

So, what is a Sports Techie? Sports Techie is your community, platform and resource to all things Sports Technology. Ask yourself this, what is sports technology to you? No two people ever seem to answer this seamingly easy question the same way. A Sports Techie to me is someone who likes sports and technology.
