Within the last year, IFAB (International Football Association Board) have approved a new type of referee to feature in soccer matches to work in tandem with the on-field referee, a move which could potentially change the game forever. It’s about Time we Let Technology Tell the Truth in Football

I can still remember that gloomy afternoon when England lost to Germany in the 2010 World Cup, I had just launched the Sports Techie community blog. Surely that Lampard shot was over the line!  There’s plenty more stories where that comes from, though that Geoff Hurst shot in the 1966 World Cup Final was miles over the line, wasn’t it?

It took the world of football until 2012 to finally agree on introducing goal-line technology and not a moment too soon. Finally we do have the goal-line technology that answers the question of whether a goal is indeed a goal or not.  About time too I hear you screaming “and why has it taken so long?”

A Brief History of Technology in Sports

Since its appearance, technology has strived to intermingle with almost every area of human life. And even when you thought that was impossible, it did the same with sports. Sports fans were a bit frustrated at first, thinking that tech specialists would interrupt or even slow the game down. The Sports Techie community blog has championed sports tech for the past six years but really going on more than twenty years when you count my career.

The troublesome goals and seemingly equal race times, however, were much more irritating. Hence, sports technology became widely accepted soon after its first appearance. For betting enthusiasts, in particular, it managed to provide indisputable results, without giving them the opportunity to blame it on the betting services, such as NJ Casinos and many...

Sports Tech And The Future Of Football

“Sports Technology And The Future Of Football”

Fans like me understand the need to integrate technology into games as best as possible to help human official decide play outcomes, rule decisions and unsportsmanlike penalties, to name of few case uses. Then there is the ‘old school’ fan like my Dad that truly believe the human element is a critical component of sports that needs to stay in place no matter what.  Club Football Online created an infographic titled, “Technology And The Future Of Football” to shine light on this important topic...

NFL And NCAA College Football Playoffs Games Need First Down Laser Systems Now

The NFL is down to the last month of the 2014 regular season and college football rivalry weekend has both fan and playoff consequences so the importance of getting first down and goal line calls correct by officials is paramount to a fair and impartial game outcome. I cannot speak for the many Sports Techie community blog readers and followers across the nation and world but for me, marking the correct spot of the ball has become a serious problem that not only affects the results of the game but causes teams to miss the playoffs and coaches to be fired. I believe this must be fixed with a sports technology product...

Is Your Child’s Brain Safe Playing Contact Sports?

The Sports Techie community blog has reported about the dangers of concussions in most all sports since I launched our sports technology business four years ago, but the alarming audacity by sports leagues, associations and federations to cover up the facts when it comes to the concussion dangers present to youth in sport has gone on long enough for me not to stand up against this sad cover up.
